Schedule for this week.

Well I got a lot done this weekend, but I still have a long way to go. For those of you who are putting bets on whether I get everything done in time for Lillies here is my schedule for this week after work.

  • Monday: Iron the 28 strips for the plunderhosen that I sewed this past weekend (7 per leg, 2 pairs of plunderhosen). Finish the Gold Brocade Guards for the Waffenfrock. Wash the Silk I dyed this weekend for the 2nd pair of Plunder hosen.
  • Tuesday: Finish the Red & Black Plunderhosen
  • Wednesday: Finish the Gold & Grey Plunderhosen
  • Thursday: Finish the Red & Black Doublet
  • Friday: Attach the Guards to the Waffenfrock & sew till I pass out.

I am sorry, I didn't take any pictures this weekend, I was too busy. I will take pictures through the week though (or give Lukas the camera so he can do it)

Fitting Round 1 Day 1

I didn't get as much done as I wanted this weekend, but I was able to get 1.5 outfits to the fitting phase.
In between looking for a new war vehicle, Lukas was willing to try on & fit his new Gold wool Bumble Bee outfit.

These first few pictures show the hosen, or outer hosen as I like to call them.

As for fitting, I would like to add a small gusset in the crotch, they really don't need much, and Lukas was able to squat fairly comfy in them.

They also need a waist band, and for the next set, I will make them 1" taller in the waist.

The 2nd picture on the left, really gives you a great view of how the applied rolls work. They are much simpler to create and apply then one might think. The yellow applied rolls are actually horizontal/circular. The applied rolls on the striped leg are diagonal, and actually never end till the bottom.
The picture on the right shows the codpiece with Lukas's heraldic device. On the next codpiece, not so wide and a bit more bubble like.

I also fitted the Whams with the brustlefleck. These are the pictures of them PINNED into place. You can see why I would like to add an inch to the pants. But don't fret, I have added the waist band yet :-)
I also need to add the top piece of the whams.
BTW before I forget to mention it, I did the whams pattern different as well. I actually did it a tad more doublet like.
I will be fitting the Red doublet tonight after car shopping. This is the doublet & plunderhosen set. Just to wet your whistle a bit, here is the codpiece for the Red & Black set.

Reminder about Newgroup & Updates

I had someone tell me I didn't email them when I updated....I told them they had to be on the update announcement list- Sure enough they weren't.

If you would like to be emailed when I post a new blog, please join our Announcement List. I prefer to keep one theme per blog, so I might update more than once a day- In that case, I will only send out 1 email at the end of the day. I also, don't always update everyday (as in right now while I am looking for a car). I really do recommend joining the Announcement List!

If you would like to chat, or ask questions in a newsgroup setting, please Join this Blog's Newsgroup.

There will be permanent links of both these groups in the links list at the right. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me.

Attack of the Killer German Bumble Bees

Ok, so there really is no such thing as Killer German Bumble Bees, there are Killer African Bees, so why not Killer German Bumble Bees?

The closest thing I think we are going to get to the Killer German B.B is this gold & black wool outfit I made for Lukas.

I started by sewing 3" strips of wool material together.

This is very important! After you sew your strips together you HAVE to iron the seams open.

This is what the strips look like sewn together but not ironed. See how bummpy they are! This is why you must iron after you sew the strips, but before you cut out!

AHHH! Look at these nice ironed seams. See how the fabric looks like it was made to be stripped! This is the way you want it to be. I can't stress this enough! At this time, PLEASE take the time to iron your seems straight!

Here is the fabric all sewn & Ironed (are you guys getting the hint yet). Doesnt it look nice!

Here is a picture of the pattern for the hosen laid out ontop of the fabric. After looking at the Reconstructing History Pattern, I chose not to follow her pattern. I read through he concept, when back to the "German Bible" of research I collected (mostly from Mistress Mari from the West Kingdom), and created my own pattern from a pair of tight pants. This is the generic shape we would like.

I have learned it is best to add decoration prior to sewing. I chose
to attach some sliced "attached rolls" (you will understand better in the next blog). Here is a picture of the 3" strips I am going to turn into the attached roll: I positioned them to see how long they needed to be. I then sewed them into long tubes, and cut them :-)

Sewing Sewing Sewing

Jenna (Keile) will be coming over this weekend while the guys are out playing in Wisconsin (they better bring me back cheese curds).

If you would like to see what I am working on this weekend, and see how much we get done, feel free to check out http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pSpV3lNaM-deCj5vQgUcsTw

I might even plug in the web camera for the weekend, though I don't know how entertaining that would be. We will see :-)

When it rains….It Pours

For me, it isn’t so much when it rains it pours, it is more like when it rains, it pours, it floods, then it gets hit by a tsunami.

Work has been busy because my boss was out on vacation, I am having some “family” issues, which sucks when your family is a 4 hour plain ride a way, and I am in the midst of looking for a new car, AND THEN I break my sewing machine.

After sewing a really nifty pair of gauntlets with Lukas’s device on them, I start to clean my machine, and promptly break it. Now I would like to address the fact that I have a good machine, it is I who broke IT. I tried so very hard to fix it, but I couldn’t so it looks like I am going to have to pay the $70 to fix my mistake.

With just over 30 days till Lilies, here I am without a sewing machine, so I try to find the foot to my serger……Yeah no serger foot. It’s not like you can just go down to your sewing store and BUY a new powercord/foot control….NNNNOOOOO you have to ORDER one.

So here I am, out a total of $150 AND I loose a sewing week AND I am now stressed beyond compare. I sadly was on a sewing roll :-( . To add insult to injury, I now cannot go to my spa weekend, as I need to hold onto that money incase I need to fly out to visit my dad AND I also don’t get the new sunshade for lilies.

Today is a sad sewing day :-(

Trying to recoup some of the lost money, as of tomorrow, I will have PDF patterns for sale. I will start with the German Landsknecht Hemd, then maybe put up some for camp chair covers, keg coolers, fighting helm bags, ext. This is all stuff I can do without my sewing machine or serger. Once I get the serger foot in, I will also have pre-sewn smocking hemds blanks for sale in white or black linen.

Smocking without a Pleater

I found this website http://www.geocities.com/~sewntell/smocking.html
I will try it tonight (or when I get a sewing machine) and I will let you know what I think.

Lilies Timer

I have just set up a Lilies War Countdown timer. Conveniently located at your right, this will tell us how much time I have left to finish sewing for war!

I might set one up for other wars here shortly.
