January's Book of the Month
January's Book of the Month will be
Written by Steven Ozment, A Mighty Fortress: A New History of the German People
I have to admit that I don't have the best grasp of German History, I beleive it is something I could greatly improve on.
I have gone to bookstores in the past, looking for German History Books, only to find shelves about the Holocaust. Yes, the Holocaust did happen and it was horrid! However, I don't think an entire nation she be judged merely for that 1 time period. Germany has a wide, rich, and long history far before Hitler was even a blink in his ancestors eyes.
Because I am starting this book halfway through the month- I am going to focus on pages 1-125. That includes chapters:
1- The Barbarian Complex- Antiquity
2- From Merovingians to Hohenstaufens- Middle Ages
3- Man and God- Renaissance & Reformation
4- Europe's Stomping Ground- Thirty Year's War
I am hoping this will give me a semi functional knowledge base to help me as I go through my year long endeavor to broaden my horizons.
